Biography

Dr. Felice Borisy-Rudin joined the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology as an assistant professor in January 2023, after having first joined the 星空无限传媒 (MCW) as a policy analyst for the Comprehensive Injury Center's Wisconsin Alcohol Policy Project (WisAPP) in October 2021. She also worked as an attorney for WisAPP at its prior location at the University of Wisconsin Law School, and as an adjunct professor for the University of Wisconsin Law School. She graduated from the California Institute of Technology in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology, then earned a PhD in Neuroscience from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1992 under the mentorship of Dr. Solomon H. Snyder, studying olfaction and gustation. She conducted postdoctoral training on heat shock proteins under Dr. Susan Lindquist at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Department of Genetics and Cell Biology at the University of Chicago and on fatty acid synthase's role in appetite under Dr. Gabriele Ronnett at the Department of Neuroscience of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In 2012, she earned a JD from the University of Wisconsin Law School. She has over 9 years of experience as a civil practice attorney, 6 years of experience as a municipal judge, and 11 years of experience as a village trustee. Her current research focuses on the legal epidemiology of how local alcohol policies contribute to Wisconsin's alcohol environment and its adverse health consequences, and how they can be used to prevent excessive alcohol consumption. She is also involved in community health initiatives, training and technical assistance for preventing excessive alcohol consumption.

Research Interests

Legal epidemiology; relationships of local alcohol policies and practices to local alcohol environments within Wisconsin; relationships of local alcohol environments to patterns of alcohol consumption and its adverse health consequences, including acute and chronic disease, injury and violence; relationship of alcohol policies to other substance availability and prevention policies; assessing applicability of evidence-based primary environmental prevention practices to local Wisconsin communities.
